UK announces Warhammer stamps

British geeks ecstatic over recognition of favorite fantasy wargames

In the U.S., we’re well-acquainted with toys, games, and hobbies adorning our postage stamps. From the board game Monopoly to Teddy bears and dolls to, most recently, Hot Wheels miniature toy cars, we’ve all seen (and probably used) stamps bearing images of our favorite pastimes. But so far U.S.P.S. stamps have never featured images of collectible miniatures.

Recently, the U.K. announced that they would do so by releasing stamps featuring images of Warhammer. The release is intended to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Warhammer - one of Britain's most popular miniature wargames - have been issued by Royal Mail.

Six stamps depict characters from Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer: Age of Sigmar and Warhammer: The Old World. A further four stamps feature illustrations from the franchise archive. They went on sale June 8.

Games Workshop has said it was delighted with the stamps

Helen Smallridge, global head of marketing at the company, said: "We're delighted to be partnering with Royal Mail to mark the 40th anniversary."

"From humble beginnings, Warhammer has grown into a British institution and a global success, with our fantasy miniatures collected by millions around the world."

David Gold, director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail, described the game as "a creative, collaborative pursuit with a unique power to spark the imagination."

“I don’t consider myself a geek and have never heard of ‘Warhammer.’ What is it?”
