David Christopher Baker
Intellectual Property Attorney | Trademarks, Copyrights, and Business Law
David Christopher Baker is an intellectual property attorney with nearly four decades of experience helping businesses, creators, and entrepreneurs protect, build, and enforce their most valuable assets—their ideas, brands, and content.
His practice focuses on trademarks, copyrights, trade dress, rights of publicity, trade secrets, domain names, and e-commerce. He represents clients across the full lifecycle of intellectual property, from selection and clearance to registration, licensing, enforcement, and litigation. David regularly handles matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), as well as state and federal courts.
Over the course of his career, David has worked with a wide range of clients—from startups and emerging brands to established companies—across industries including comic books, film and television production, video games and software, publishing, apparel, restaurants, and e-commerce. This breadth of experience allows him to provide practical, business-focused advice tailored to the real-world challenges his clients face.
In addition to intellectual property law, David advises clients on general business matters such as corporate formation, governance, contracts, licensing, and risk management. His approach emphasizes clarity, efficiency, and strategic thinking, helping clients make informed decisions without unnecessary complexity.
David is also an author and educator who regularly writes and speaks on intellectual property topics. He is the author of Trademark Lawyering: How to Work Effectively, Efficiently, and Economically with Your Trademark Attorney and is currently developing additional works on trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property strategy for business owners and creators. His writing and presentations are known for translating complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance—often with a touch of humor.
A long-time attendee of San Diego Comic-Con since the mid-1980s, David has a deep appreciation for the creative industries he serves. His personal interests in comics, publishing, military history, and tabletop gaming inform his perspective and allow him to connect with clients in a meaningful and authentic way.
David is licensed to practice law in California, Montana, and Texas, and works with clients throughout the United States and internationally.
